It’s Oscar season when the world’s finest cinema artists are celebrated and immortalized with awards for accomplishments in cinematography, directing, and acting.
But our favorite actors are never nominated!
We think it’s time the most talented actors get their due.
Sure, Lassie and Old Yeller blazed the trail, but our favorite Hollywood pooches are a little more modern.
Which furry artists would win the Oscar for best actor if you were voting??
The nominees are…
Beasley as Hooch in Turner and Hooch
Everyone loves Beasley’s saggy faced performance as Hooch in this late 80s comedy. Did you know there was a spinoff series released on Disney+ recently? We like to think that had nothing to do with Turner and everything to do with Hooch!
Buddy as Bud in Air Bud
Performances in sports movies are rarely recognized by the Academy, but Buddy is an actor we’ll never forget. We like to think that Buddy could’ve won multiple awards for his part in this movie franchise, but sadly he passed away after this film’s release. RIP to one of the GOATs.
Moonie as Bruiser in Legally Blonde
You might remember this female Chihuahua from her iconic years as the Taco Bell dog, but she captured our hearts on the silver screen as Bruiser Woods. Sure, everyone else loves the LB movies for the pearly-white charisma of Reese Witherspoon. But we only watched this one for our girl Moonie and she stole the show.
Terry as Toto in The Wizard of Oz
No dog’s cinematic performance is more legendary than what Terry brought to the role of Toto. Seeing her trot down the yellow brick road with Dorothy is forever imprinted on the American imagination.
Mushu as Frank the Pug in Men in Black
Spoiler alert! Frank the Pug was an alien the whole time!! And it turns out, Mushu the dog was a comedy genius. We laughed every time he was on screen. Mushu was so talented that when he died between filming three seconds and third movies, production decided to use CGI for the role rather than train another actor. Mushu was that good.
Chris the St. Bernard as Beethoven in Beethoven
Chris captured America’s heart in this classic 90s comedy. Beethoven was a wrecking ball, but Chris’ most impressive work was in his scenes alongside Charles Grodin. Eight films and a television spinoff followed this movie, but Chris was only the star in the franchise’s first two installments.
